William (Bill) (Homer) Schmalz

Mr. William (Bill) (Homer) Schmalz, 80, of Duryea, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Taylor.

Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late Homer and Florence Kramer Schmalz. He was a graduate of Duryea High School. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the former Brooks Mfg., Old Forge and the former Lady Carol, Duryea.

William loved German Shepards and could be often seen around town walking his dogs Queen and Cheyenne.  He loved flowers and planted many in his yard for his sister to make bouquets for their church for over 40 years.

He was a member of the Brick United Methodist Church, Duryea.

He was a member of the Duryea Lions Club for over 50 years and received Lion of the Year several times. He was a sports fan and liked to follow the local teams. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan.

Funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Ave., Duryea with services by the Rev. Sharon Dietz. Interment will be Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. A viewing will be held on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the church. Arrangements are by the Bernard J. So sorry to hear about Homer passing! He was a kind and generous man ! He will be sadly missed seeing him walking through Duryea and Old Forge ! RIP Homer! We worked at Brook Mfg together !

The world has lost one of the kindest and most gentle people in the world. He was a loyal friend and my most cherished memories of Homer are sports and the Duryea Lions Club. May his memory be eternal.
