Mr. Walter S. Cohowitz, 79, of Duryea, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, in Wesley Village Skilled Nursing Home of United Methodist Homes, Pittston.
Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late William and Mary Przwara Cohowicz. He attended Old Forge Schools. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the area garment industry.
He was a member of St. Michaels Church, Old Forge for his entire life prior to its closing.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He enjoyed hunting, going to the movies, the casino, going out to eat and spending time with his family.
He was past president of the Robert Healey Playground, Duryea and a member of the Duryea Lions Club.
He was proceeded in death by brothers, William, Stanley, Bruno, Joseph, Michael, John and Edward and sisters, Mary Stancavage, Josephine Baclaski, Helen Bailer, Anna Mae Bowen and Patricia Evancavich.
He and his wife the former Claire Keiper celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 25, 2013..

Grandson, James Walter Bravyak and his wife, Laura, of Marlton, NJ
Granddaughter, Jessica Bravyak of Philadelphia
Great grandsons, James Hunter and Grant Thomas Bravyak
Sister, Cecelia Rosato of Scranton

Funeral will be held Monday, February 10, 2013 at 9:00 A.M. from Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea with the Rev. Andrew Sinnott officiating. Interment will be in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Sunday from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Dear Aunt Claire him giving me I am so sorry to see him go. I will always remember him giving me his pocket change when I was little and even when I was older it was like a joke between us that he would still give me his change. When he didin't have any I would give him mine. I will truly miss him. He is now with our lord and the rest of his family. God bless all of you.
