Mr. Stephen Joseph Echan, of Michigan, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in Michigan.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late Stephen John and Matilda Poskonski Echan. He served as equalization director (in charge of personal and real estate property taxes) in Saginaw County from 1966 to 1993. Prior to that he worked as a property appraiser for residential, industrial, agricultural and commercial properties.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He and his wife the former Sandra Strobel were married on November 20, 1981.

Niece, Sandra Schimmel of Duryea
Nephew, Stanley Nazarchuk of Duryea

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Local arrangements were by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea.
