Mr. Richard A. Champi Sr., 89, of Duryea, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in West Pittston, he was the son of the late Cosmo and Mary Troisi Champi. He was a graduate of West Pittston High School, Class of 1945. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Potlatch in Ransom for 35 years.
He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea and the American Legion Post 513, Old Forge. He was a former member of the Emanon Country Club.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an avid golfer and gardener.
He was proceeded in death by his brothers, Almondo, Charles and Michael and sisters, Elizabeth Collelo, Eleanor Sheperis, Lena Graci and Susan Labaty.
He and his wife, the former Helen Dunay, celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary on October 6, 2016.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 9:30 am in Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Sunday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral. The AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will conduct military services on Monday morning. It was always fun to see Mr. Champi at Bonner Chevrolet. We also enjoyed seeing him at Fox Hill during the Allan tourney. Great guy!
