My father was a complex guy. In the best of times our relationship was difficult, strained, contentious. We were oil and water. That aside, my father was a genuine hero. His was a long life of overcoming obstacles, hardships, disappointments and absolute horror. He was an admired, respected leader. A flawed, imperfect, honorable man. Abhorrent as much of the world has become, I have to believe that he made his little part of it better having been in it.
