Marcia Steer

Mrs. Marcia C. Steer, of  Duryea, passed away Monday evening at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born in Duryea, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Helen Barlik Burke.  She was a graduate of Duryea High School, College Misericordia and earned her Masters Degree in Guidance from the University of Scranton.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the Pittston Area School District as a guidance counselor.

Marcia was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. She was one of the founding  members of the Duryea Women's Club, active with the Duryea Library, Member of the Board of Directors of the Duryea Ambulance Association and Mt Laurel Lions Club, Wilkes Barre. She was also noted for making the clam chowder for the Germania Hose Company annual picnic.

Marcia and her husband Jimmy would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 24th of this year.

Surviving in addition to her husband are:
Sister: Bernice Ferranti and her husband, Donald, of Old Forge
Brother: Paul Burke and wife, Helen ,of  Duryea
Nieces and Nephews

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday morning at 11:00 A.M. in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea with the Rev Andrew Sinnott Pastor officiating.

Internment St. John's Cemetery, Duryea.

Friends may call Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 P. M. at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc.
204 Main Street, Duryea.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Holy Rosary School,
Stephenson Street, Duryea, Pa. 18642

Friends and family are asked to go directly to church on Friday morning.

Mr. Steer, my father told me of your wife's passing. I have very fond childhood memories of her and my mother working together at NE High School and later at Pittston Area. My thoughts are with you.

what a wonderful, smart, creative person she was.I don't think she even knew ,how much of an influence she had on my life as a young woman. our short Saturday morning conversations and our cup of coffee meant a lot to me. I will miss her and think of her often. GOD bless you Marcia. Dorothy
