Mrs. Leona Theresa Mlodzienski, 89, of Duryea, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Dupont, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Mary Zielinski Wrazien and was a graduate of White Haven High School and attended business college. Prior to her retirement, she was employed Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea.

In 1958 Leona married Edmund, and together they raised four sons. Leona was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her interests always revolved around her family and friends and the art of loving them well. Leona knew no greater joy than having her loved ones at home during the holidays. The magic and memories she created during those times were her legacy and will be cherished by those close to her.

Leona was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund P. Mlodzienski, who passed away on September 15, 2023, and her son, Michael Mlodzienski Sr., who passed away on August 21, 1989.

Son, Tom Mlodzienski and his wife, Melinda, of Macedon, New York
Son, Ron Mlodzienski and his wife, Barb, of Jenkins Township

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 9:30 am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea. Interment will be Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral. She was an angel. Leona was 19 years older than me and when we would come to visit from NYC I somehow had a special connection with her. I’m very sad knowing now that I won’t be able to talk with her, even if it was only a rare thing as we got older. Leona was a rock for my mom, Jean. My heart goes out to her family, Leona was just the best.
