Mr. Joseph W. O'Boyle, 82, of Pittston, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Avoca, he was the son of the late Frank and Rose Walsh O'Boyle. Joseph was a graduate of Pittston High School.  He served in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for 38 years by the Wilkes-Barre Post Office.

Joseph was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. He was an avid Notre Dame fan and enjoyed watching them on tv and going to their games.

He was preceded in death by his son in law, Herman Hughes, who passed away on January 12, 2015, his brother, Jack and his sister, Mary.

Surviving are his wife the former Anna Mae Copper

Daughter, Jo Ann Hughes of Pittston

Son, Joseph O'Boyle and his wife, Maria, of Jenkins Township

Grandson, Paul Hughes and his wife, Donna, of Dallas

Grandson, Justin Hughes of Ransom

Granddaughter, Yanna O'Boyle of Jenkins Township

Great grandson, Jacob of Dallas

The family would like to thank Dr. James Kosik and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care and compassion that was shown to Joseph and his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at 9:30 am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William Street, Pittston with the Rev. Joseph Elston officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea.
