Mr. Joseph P. Yakalavich, 83, of Pittston, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Allied Services Hospice Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann Stegnunas Yakalavich and was a graduate of Pittston Area High School. He served for six years in the United States Marines, serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Pittston Lumber, Pittston and the United Parcel Service, Stroudsburg.
He was a member of St. John's the Evangelist Church, Pittston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former JoAnn M. Mrak, who passed away on October 16, 2025, his son, Joseph Yakalavich, who passed away on June 4, 2021, and his brother, Michael (Mickey) Yakalavich, who passed away on May 1, 2012.

Niece, Georgeann Mann of Millsboro, Delaware
Niece, Marie Conahan and her husband, Patrick of Mountain Top

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffen Pond Road, Abington Township, PA 18411.
