Mr. Joseph J. Korea, 69, of Duryea, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late John and Catherine Baron Korea and was a graduate of Seton Catholic High School, Class of 1969 and Luzerne County Community College. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Schott Optical, Duryea.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston.

Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, but he real love was spending time with his three grandchildren who were the light of his life. Joe was a die hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and a Penn State fan. He enjoyed going on vacation, especially cruises, going to amusement parks and the outdoors.


He was preceded in death by his brother, John Korea and brother in law, John Zack.

Daughter, Alicia Mortensen and her husband, Christopher, of Bear Creek
Son, Joseph Korea and his wife, Alana Noel, of Duryea
Grandson, Colin Mortensen
Granddaughter, Courtney Korea
Grandson, Kaleb Korea

Sister-in-law, Nancy Korea of Gouldsboro

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston with interment in St. John's Cemetery, Duryea. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea.
