Mr. John Yurkanin Jr., of Duryea, passed away Saturday at his home.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late John and Mary Skasko Yurkanin.

He attended Duryea schools and was formerly employed at Tops Chewing Gum Co., Duryea.  John was last employed by Mid Way Tool, Plains Township.

John once served with the 109th Inf. West Pittston, as a Sergeant.

He was a member of St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston and Teamsters Local.  John was a former coach for the Duryea V. F. W. Little League Team and the Duryea Wildcats Mini football team. He was an avid sportsman and bowler.

John and his wife, the former Cynthia Moluski, would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on May 6th.

Daughter : Lori Wasik and husband, Matthew, of Duryea
Grandson: Timothy Williams and wife, Alisea
Granddaughter: Nicole Grochal and husband, Nicholas
Great Grandsons: Matthew and Jacob
Sister: Marie Kobal of Old Forge
Sister: Irene Dunay and her husband, Martin of Duryea
Sister: Anna Mae Dunay and husband, Paul of Shelton, Ct.
Nieces and Nephews

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. in St Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church on North Main Street, Pittston with Mass of the Divine Liturgy celebrated by, Father Joseph Bertha PhD. Pastor.
Family and friends are asked to go directly to church Thursday morning.
Friends may call Wednesday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc. 204 Main Street, Duryea.
