Mr. John P. Sokolowsky, 59, passed from this life unexpectedly on Monday, June 3, 2024, from complications due to prostate cancer.

Born in Pittston, he was the youngest child of the late Edward and Bernardine Dudzik Sokolowsky. John was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1983.

From a young age he worked with the family business, Sokolowsky Brothers, to become an excellent auto mechanic, a skill he used throughout his life.

His passion for cars, John was a master of repairs and installation of anything he found. He thrived on being busy. His kind hearted nature made it easy for him to go above and beyond to help family and friends. He was well respected and likable by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John was preceded in death by his siblings, Stanley Sokolowsky, Mary Badyrka, Theresa Wychoskie, Michael Sokolowsky and Ann Marie Rowlands.

Siblings left to cherish his memory are:
Brother, Eddie Sokolowsky, lifelong best friend and partner in crime and his wife, Nancy of Harding
Sister, Bernie Rink and her husband, Robert of Scranton
Sister, Judy Martinelli and her husband, David of Duryea
Companion and close friend, Patty Rescigno of Trucksville and her daughters, Christa and Hope, whom he loved so dearly
Nieces, nephews and many friends too numerous to mention

Special thank you to Darwin and Al Perschay for their lifelong support of John. They are true heroes. Also, Dr. Rajiv Panekkar and his team at Geisinger, Danville and the doctors and nurses at Geisinger Wyoming Valley ICU through his end of life journey. You were remarkable.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 10:00 am in Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea wit the Rev. Michael Bryant officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Duryea, A viewing will be held on Sunday from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church the morning of the funeral. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
