Mr. John Maxim, 94, of Duryea, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late John and Margaret Rice Maxim. He attended Duryea Schools. He served in the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by UGI.
He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.
He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1227 Duryea and the Pittston Senior Citizens Center.
John was a good cook and baker. He liked cookies, gardening, jigsaw puzzles and winning at bingo at the senior center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Theresa Polaski, who passed away on January 29, 2015, brothers, George, Albert and Leo and sister, Dorothy Mondlak.

Sister, Elizabeth Field and her husband, Oliver, of Vacaville, CA
Brother in law, John Polaski and his wife, Rosalie, of Springfield, MA
Brother in law, Joseph Polaski of Old Forge

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at 11:00 am in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Duryea. The V.F.W. Post 1227 Duryea will conduct military services the morning of the funeral. Arrangements are by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea.
