Mr. Herbert P. Hoover Sr., 97, of Duryea, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016, at his home.

Born in Old Forge, he was the son of the late William and Ellen Jones Hoover. He attended Old Forge Schools. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Metropolitan Wire, Plains.

He was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed cutting his grass and tending to his yard. He was as avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Steelers.

He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters and Wayne's fiance, Diane Kozak.

He and his wife, the former Shirley Shelly, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 12, 2015.


Surviving in addition to his wife are:
Son, Herbert Hoover Jr. and his wife, Bernadine, of Duryea
Son, Alan Hoover and his wife, Arlene, of Duryea
Son, Wayne Hoover of Avoca
Daughter, Deborah Nicholls and her husband, Donald, of Old Forge

Grandchildren
Great grandchildren

The family would like to thank Herbert's granddaughter, Mary, for taking such good care of him through out his illness. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the care and compassion that was shown to Herbert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 9:30 am in Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Duryea. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church the morning of the funeral.
