Mr. Henry Hokien, 95, of Duryea, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Wesley Village.

Born in Duryea, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen Santich Hokien and was a graduate of Duryea High School. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, his was employed as a union carpenter.

Henry was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1227 and the American Legion Post 585, both of Duryea. Henry enjoyed fishing with his son, Richard and visiting with his friends, Rick and Carol Huddy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen A. Kuzara, who passed away on July 13, 2014, son, Richard Hokien, brothers, Eugene and Frank Hokien and a sister, Helen Coco.

Surviving are: Daughter, Patricia Hokien Poot and her husband, Jaap, of The Netherlands
Five grandchildren, Kaleena, Ricky, Billy, Tanja and Jaap
Three great grandchildren, Sydney, Samantha and Ronan
Nieces and nephews

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at 10:00 am in Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea with the Rev. Michael Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. A viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the church. The Greater Pittston AMVETS will conduct military services the morning of the funeral. Arrangements are by the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea. Patty and family and the late Richard’s children my sympathy for the loss of your dad and grandfather…. I was Helen’s Hairdresser for many years and Henry was part of my Nativity church family… he was always a sweet man who loved you all very much! Always the gentleman in his dress and his manner…. Know that I think he had a good life and now rests in peace!
