Mrs. Helen M. Mayewski, 97, of Duryea, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 13, 2014, in Riverside Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Taylor.

Born in Forest City, on December 5, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Lasicki Orlowski. She attended Forest City Schools. She worked at the former Duryea Silk Mill and later retired after twenty five years from the former Brooks Mfg. Co., Old Forge.

She was a devout catholic and a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. She was a member of the Christian Womens Society. She was a member and past president of the former Confraternity of Christian Mothers.

Helen was a strong person with a remarkable memory and would often reminiscence about the old days. She was very proud of her polish heritage, love polka music and cooking in the polish tradition. When it came to sports, she rooted for the Yankees till her dying days.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Edward S. Mayewski, who passed away on March 14, 1997,son in law, Edward Riviello, brothers, Frank Orlowski and Walter Kijek.

Daughter, Mary Ann Riviello of Wharton, New Jersey
Son, Eugene Majewski and his wife, Carol, of Taylor

Gene Majewski Jr. and his wife, Mari, of Old Forge
David Majewski of Taylor
Chris Riviello and his wife, Danette, of Maryland
Mark Riviello and his wife, Kelly, of New Jersey
Mary Ellen Pajunas and her husband, Paul, of New Jersey

Great grandchildren:
Emily, Elizabeth, Alicia, Olivia, Collin and Zackery

Niece, Diane Orlowski of Duryea
Niece, Sandra Kijek - Schult and her husband, Alan, of Albuquerque, New Mexico
and their children, Britney, Amber and Bryce
Nephew: Ben Nitowski and his wife, Dolores, of Duryea

The family would like to thank Helen's niece, Diane, her neighbor, Phyllis, and her good friend, Marion, for all the care and love than was shown to her.

The funeral will be held Monday, August 18, 2014, at 9:00 am from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea with the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea with the Rev. Andrew Sinnott officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the funeral home.
