Frank M. Slovenkai Jr.
September 10, 2022

Frank M. Slovenkai, Jr., a resident of Scranton, died Saturday morning, September 10,
2022, at home in the care of his loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Scranton on September 12, 1951, Frank was the son of the late Frank M. Sr. and
Marie Kalinich Slovenkai. He attended Scranton Public Schools and was a 1969 graduate
of West Scranton High School. He attended Penn State University and was a loyal Penn
State fan.

At the time of his illness, Frank was employed in Maintenance HVAC and Automation
Tech at Sanofi-Pasteur in Swiftwater. Prior to that, he had been employed in HVAC at
Henningsen Cold Storage, Scranton and at Kane Warehouse, Scranton. He had also
worked at St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst and Oppenheim’s Department Store, Scranton.
While a student at West Scranton and later at Penn State, Frank worked at Atlas
Industries, Wolfgang Bakery, and Williams Bakery.

Frank was a member of Holy Family Church until its closing in 2010. There he was a
member of Boy Scout Troop 47 where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout, an achievement
of which he was very proud. As a scout, he was a member of the kitchen staff at Goose
Pond Scout Reservation for several summers.

Frank was a life-long member of the First Catholic Slovak Union (FCSU) and the Greek
Catholic Union (GCU). He was president of FCSU Branch 382K of Scranton for the past
25 years.

He was a member of the Pocono Area Radio Club and Keystone Emergency Unit (KEU)
where he had served as treasurer. As part of KEU, he trained as an ambulance driver and
as a member of the SCUBA team. He was trained in CPR, First Aid, and Advanced First
Aid and was a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

He was a kind and loving husband, father, brother, and uncle. Frank took great
satisfaction in the accomplishments of his children. He was proud of and supported his
wife’s and his younger son’s work with the Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Company.
He had a special bond with his dog Zeus.

He was a life member of the Holy Family Social and Welfare Club (HFS&W). As a
young man, Frank enjoyed going with his father and grandfather to the HFS&W Club
grounds in Covington Township. Hunting was a treasured outdoor activity along with
spending time with his father-in-law Gilbert at a favorite fishing spot. Frank loved his
cars and had owned several but was proudest of his Barracuda, Cordoba, and Roadrunner.
He also took pride in his W200 truck with its plow.

Frank leaves behind his wife of thirty-six years Maureen Burke Slovenkai and his
children Frank M. III, Danielle, and Matthew. He is also survived by his sister Elizabeth
and brothers Michael and John as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

A viewing will be held for friends and relatives to pay their respects on Friday, September 16, from 5:00
