Mr. David “Shoes” Overman, 66, of Pittston Township, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born and raised in West Pittston, he was the son of the late Fred and Alfreda Szydlik Overman and was a graduate of Seton Catholic High School.
David was known by all who loved him as the life of the party. He had a magnetic personality, a wonderful sense of humor, and a gift for making people laugh wherever he went. Social, charming, and full of stories, David never met a stranger and treasured every moment spent with family and friends.
David had a passion for spending time with family and was truly a “jack of all trades.” Win or lose, he was a die-hard Raiders fan, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his team. More than anything, he enjoyed being surrounded by the people he loved most.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, his memory will live on in the countless stories, laughter, and love shared by all who knew him.
David was a devoted father and grandfather.
He was a member of the Greater Pittston Knights of Columbus Council 372.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Linda Bright.
He is survived by:
Daughter, Sydney Overman and her husband, Joseph McDevitt of Kingston
Son, David Overman of Pittston
Son, Hunter Overman of Pittston Township
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jude, Cecelia, and Frances, who brought immense joy to his life.
Brother, Jeffrey Overman and his wife, Ann of Terry Town
Brother, Richard Overman and his wife, Linda of Wapwallopen
Sister, Andrea Bender of Plains
Brother, Brian Overman of Plymouth
Sister, Ava DeGrose and her husband, Lou of Dupont
Along with many extended family members and dear friends who will deeply miss his laughter, warmth, and unforgettable spirit.
Although David's funeral services and interment will be private, family and friends are invited to celebrate David's life and to remember the joy he brought to so many. I met Dave way back in the late 70's while working at keystone automotive warehouse. Everyone called him Shoes. We remained friends throughout the years. He was quick to help me in a time of need for which I will never forget. May Jesus embrace his soul. My condolences to his family.
