Mrs. Catherine M. (Katie) Sardegna, 79, of Duryea, passed away Friday, September 11, 2015, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary Lokitis Lapinski. She was a graduate of Duryea High School, Class of 1953.

She was a life time parishioner of St. Joseph's Church, Duryea prior to its closing. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.

She was a loving mom, grandma, great grandma and Katie to her family and friends. 

She was proceeded in death by her husband, William B. Sardegna, who passed away on December 13, 1995, son, William P. Sardegna, granddaughter, Dana Marie Cahill, brothers, Albert, Anthony and Thomas and sister, Adell Lazarowics.

Surviving are:
Son, COL Kenneth Sardegna and his wife, Jessica Ginsburg, of Falls Church, VA
Grandson, William M. Sardegna of Duryea
Granddaughter, Dena Tylutke and her husband, Eric, of Madisonville
Great grandchildren, Louis, Taylor, Skylar, Cayla, Eddie, Carleigh and Sophia

Sister, Lillian Kroptavich of Duryea
Brother, Michael Lapinski of Alberton, MT
Nieces and nephews

Funeral will be held Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 9:00 am from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea with the Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in Holy Rosary Church, Duryea with the Rev. Andrew Sinnott officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Monday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
