Mr. Andrew “Andy” Joseph Evanich, 79, of Pittston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born on January 26, 1947, he was the son of the late Thomas and Irene Palo Evanich of Swoyersville. He spent most of his life living with his loving wife in Pittston where they raised their family.

Andy was a devout Catholic and faithful member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. He proudly served in the United States Army, spending part of his military service stationed in Alaska during the Vietnam War era.

Andy spent his career as a talented cabinet maker, designing and building custom cabinetry and kitchens. He took great pride in his craftmanship and was known by all for his hardworking nature.

He was an avid gardener in his younger years, especially known for his corn on the cob and extra-large pumpkins, and was a lifelong sports fan. Beyond his many talents, Andy will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to make those around him laugh and smile.

Andy measured a rich life not by what he had but by what he was willing to give. He was the kind of man who would give anyone the shirt off his back to help someone else, even if it meant going without himself. His generous heart and incredible work ethic defined the man he was. Nothing made him prouder than the life he built with his wife and his four children. He celebrated each of their accomplishments with unwavering love and pride.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Judith Carlson and Patricia Krasucki.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, lifelong partner, and best friend, Patricia Petrolonis Evanich of Pittston.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 11:00 am from the Bernard J. Piontek Funeral Home Inc., 204 Main Street, Duryea with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea with the Rev. Michael Drevitch officiating. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Swoyersville. A viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.
